[GP/UI] Rename color codes

Post by Gilligan »

Concise description:
  • Rename the color codes
Specifics/Details:
  • the M definitely needs to be fixed and was not foreseen in the testing group. The letter is too wide and can prove hard to read on some maps with smaller army circles. With that, we came up with a list of codes that matches the first letter of each color for easier use than it is right now.

http://www.conquerclub.com/player.php?mode=settings also needs to be updated, it is quite important.

    Red
    Green
    Blue
    Yellow
    Pink
    Cyan
    Orange
    Silver
    Violet
    Electric green
    Auburn
    Drab
How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • Easier reading, easier color-to-code relation. In theory this should be a relatively easy fix that has quite a large impact. If done, it NEEDS to be done sooner rather than later so that people don't get used to how it is and have to adjust again.

Great idea. Definitely needs to be done sooner rather than later.
I would suggest violet instead of purple, so we don't have two p's (pink being the other).

Agreed on all counts.
  • This does seem like a neater set of labels.
  • If people have to get used to something new, it's best to act fast, before the current system gets ingrained and people feel resentful about facing a change.
  • The settings page needs to reflect the current list.

Fabulous suggestion. Since a dozen of these things will be hard to remember, it's important to keep the letter codes limited to the first letter of the color. Well done.

Step 2 needs to be communication of the 'official' color names to all players. I know i am not alone in witnessing countless instances of communication missed simply because a player didn't know what color he was. Are there prominent visible places the official list could be posted?

http://www.conquerclub.com/player.php?mode=settings is the first place that comes to mind.

This goes hand in hand with the List player colours in the Instructions tab suggestion.

Might I also suggest this: a banner on My Games page identifying the changes, since "v" is now a different player.

some colors are still hard to distinguish from other colors. Suggest taking the last 2 or 3 and making them 2 colors - top 1 color, bottom different, or perhaps colors are vertical. Be creative and it will solve the color problem.

I highly doubt this is an option. I've never seen a font with two colors before.

As far as being hard to distinguish, that's why we have color codes. It's very hard to find 13 totally unique colors that work well on most maps.

And furthermore, it probably caused the price of silver to crash.
