Your first ever game? lol, I've never even been to north america and I've seen two games live in Stockholm. You can't be that much into hockey Timmiz.Timminz wrote:The Swedes are good because they've been looking up to the Canadians, trying to emulate us, for so long that it's starting to bring real results.
In other news, I now live in an NHL city, and have acquired tickets to see my first ever game.
Thirdly, Go Leafs!
You do realize how large geographically Canada is...don't you? Not all of us live in an NHL city. Getting in a car and driving (in my case) 16 hours to Toronto or 19 hours to Ottawa for a game is pretty tough. Even 8 hours to Winnipeg or St. Paul (Minnesota) is a pain.Gillipig wrote:Your first ever game? lol, I've never even been to north america and I've seen two games live in Stockholm. Congratulations, that rocks.Timminz wrote:I now live in an NHL city, and have acquired tickets
I've heard it's as densely populated as it is large as well. By the way have you ever heard of a plane? You don't have to drive everywhere you're going you know. And you don't have to go every week, my surprise was not that he didn't watch them on a regular basis, but that he had never watched one. If you like hockey, and you live in Canada, no matter how fucking remote, you should at some point have visited one of the larger cities, and if you did that you could've watched a game. If you didn't, it doesn't sound like you're that interested. That's all I'm saying.keiths31 wrote:You do realize how large geographically Canada is...don't you? Not all of us live in an NHL city. And hey, I for one am happy for you that you got to see two NHL games live. That Swedish Elite crap must really get on your nerves now that you have seen the best there is, eh?
Really it's about marginal value. I went to see a lot of Major Junior games back in Halifax (our team won the Memorial cup last year, it was a great season). It's a good time, the arena holds about 10k people, and it can get damn loud in there. Sure, the level of hockey isn't as good as the NHL, but it's exciting and cheap. I'd rather watch a Major Junior game live, than an NHL game on TV. Now, making a trip to an NHL city, with all the associated costs can get quite expensive (tickets to games in Montreal and Toronto don't generally go for less than $125 each for the nosebleed section), and personally, for that much money, I'd rather take a trip to go skiing somewhere nice.Gillipig wrote:I've heard it's as densely populated as it is large as well. Oh and the Swedish elite league really is crap, that's why I watch the NHL.

So the only games you've been to have been in Stockholm. Or, in other words, you only went because it was convenient for you. Well I've got news for you, those may have been "NHL games", but you did not receive an NHL experience. If you were truly a fan, you'd have bought a ticket for one of those plane thingys you've heard of, and flown to a proper NHL city for a proper NHL experience. But since you haven't, it doesn't sound like you're that interested. That's all I'm saying.Gillipig wrote:I've heard it's as densely populated as it is large as well. I didn't say I got the "NHL expereience" all I said was that I've watched NHL games and he hasn't.Serbia wrote:So the only games you've been to have been in Stockholm. Bollocks.
I support the Red Wings. I happen to live in Detroit. The Wings are one of the league's premier teams. I could go see a game in Columbus (as I plan to do this year) and the experience will suffer. I'm one of the lucky ones who doesn't have to travel.Gillipig wrote:I take it you don't go to Dallas to see an NHL game. So you do the same thing sister.

Explain my childhood love for the Toronto Blue Jays, a team playing in a city I had never been to before 2011, when I had the Detroit Tigers right in my backyard.Gillipig wrote:I support whatever team comes to Sweden to play, so like you I don't need to to get on a plane to see them. *sticks out tongue*
Btw, you don't just "happen" to like the Red Wings, living in Detroit makes you at least 900% more likely to root for them.

You just don't get a joke do you? I even added the "sticks out tongue" to hint to people like you that I was jesting.Timminz wrote:A fan who's allegiance sways whichever way the wind blows, trying to mock a true fan for not dropping 5 grand to see a hockey game...

Against both the divisions and the format. They really made the divisions illogical geographically and the playoff system sucks.keiths31 wrote:New divisions and new playoff format For or against?
I think they new divisions are great...though the names are something to be desired. In the East especially. How you can have a division named the 'Atlantic' with only 3 of the 8 teams actually on the Atlantic is ridiculous. The 'Metropolitan'? Named after a drink? Even the Pacific with Edmonton and Calgary (about as close to the Pacific as Detroit is from the Atlantic) is silly. Smythe, Norris, Adams and Patrick would have been much, much better (and classier).
The new playoff format, with the top three in each division making it, and two wild cards will make the final weeks pretty exciting. The imbalance between the two divisions is something I could live without, but there isn't much else they could have done aside from leaving Columbus in the West.
