i dont know the exact story, but i know that anybody in the states ( if laws allow it), can shoot down anybody if he is on your ground

it would be ok to shoot down a 5 year old neighbours boy, because he stepped on your backyard

I haven't really followed this too closely, so I don't know where it happened, and these comments may not be appropriate to the situation.

However, there are 2 people per square kilometer in Montana, compared to 235 in Germany. Montana is 5 times the size of Hesse but with only 10% of the population. There are parts of the U.S. where, if you're being victimized by criminals, you're on your own because the police are hours, or even days away (days in parts of Alaska's Unorganized Borough, where a local government has yet to be established). This isn't the Gendarmenmarkt where you can whistle and 10 police will be there in 30 seconds.

Again, all I can say is that, given this is Montana where life is - by necessity - 1000% different than anyplace in Germany, I'm inclined to reserve judgement.

There are sparsely settled places in the world where your average Karstadt-shopping, McDonald's eating, Volkswagen Golf-driving, German tourist should just not go. Montana might be one of those places. I recommend fragile European holidaymakers book their travel from an experienced travel agent. Say "I want to see the real USA!" and they will smile politely and book you 3 days at an all-inclusive resort at Disneyworld, with a bus trip to the local shopping centre, and followed by a guided fan-boat trip through a small portion of the Everglades where the alligators have had their jaws taped shut. Well, close. IIRC he walked into the house without knocking on the door, thinking it was a friends house. And he was wearing an elaborate costume. But the clincher was it was 3 weeks before Halloween.

So yeah, you're sitting in your living room on a fall evening and the door suddenly opens and a stranger wearing bloody clothes and a mask walks in and doesn't respond to your English-language warnings to get out ... that's usually a recipe for disaster.
