Has anyone else upgraded yet?

Trying to use the Photos app and it appears to be some beta POS rather than the proper app. No idea why.

I just installed it, must say I really don't like the new windows edge.
As for the new taskbar, I guess it's ok, though I had gotten used to the windows 8 task page.
I hope there's a way to change the orange backgrounds though. All that orange is ugly as f*ck. Never mind got it, though somewhat buggy.

AoG and Woodruff should get together to split a bag of Werther's Originals.

I'll be sticking with Windows 7 for another year or two probably. But my significant other will be getting a new laptop and will likely upgrade.

It's basically just 7 with a visual upgrade and app buttons on the start menu, as far as I can tell.

also a couple of new programs. Internet explorer upgraded to Microsoft Edge, and others.
And I seriously hope Windows update has been debugged, because that bugger was worthless on windows 8.

I find it odd that you didn't know of it. Are you using Linux or Apple?
All windows users should've been informed about a month ago, when a new icon appeared on your lower right taskbar. It's a free upgrade.

Nietzche uses Linux, that is true. However, I use Windows and I haven't been assailed by any notifications either.

A. All popular programs work on windows, same can't be said for other operating systems per sé.
B. It's easy to use

The last time I paid for an operating system was DOS 6.0 back in '92 or whenever it was. Admittedly, it was a mistake, but I didn't know any better at the time.

I've been a Windows user as long as there's been Windows, but it's not by any deliberate choice, but by default. All my computers have been second-hand, and they all came with Windows installed. A couple of my Windows 98 computers I did upgrade to Vista, and my copy of Vista is store-bought, but it was bought for me by a rich relative who didn't ask for my input before buying it, so again it was just a default action for me rather than a deliberate choice.

I've never bought a computer new, but my understanding is that the situation there is much the same. Windows usually is pre-installed on new computers sold, so for most people it's just the path of least resistance. To not use Windows involves deliberately wiping the hard drive and installing Linux or whatever, so even if there's no cash outlay, there is a cost in time and effort, whereas sticking with Windows generally involves just opening the box and turning the computer on. About six years ago a friend of mine went to buy a new computer from Dell; they told him he would actually have to pay extra to get a computer without Windows, because their license requires them to put Windows on every new computer made. I did briefly consider buying a new computer last year and the situation is much the same. The store owner explained to me that the cost of Windows is built-in to the manufacturer's price, so it doesn't cost any more to get a computer with Windows than without.

If computers were made with blank hard drives and you had to install your own operating system, most people would of course choose to go with a free OS, that is why Microsoft goes right after the manufacturers and doesn't allow that to become an option.

So I guess the simple answer to your question is: most people don't pay for operating systems. I mean, yes the cost of Windows is built-in to the computer, but since you will pay it whether you use the Windows or not, you may as well use it and avoid the hassle of switching.

1) For laptops, there are manufacturers that don't force you to pay the Windows tax. Buy from them. Don't buy from Dell. Don't buy from Dell anyway, their hardware sucks.

2) For desktops, build the machine yourself. You'll learn more about how your computer works, and you won't be forced to pay the Windows tax.

I LOVE Werther's Originals, so I will not be sharing.

And why did you change your avatar? I'm sad now...

I'm also using Windows 7, so I'm sad for that reason too...

Just because it's free doesn't make you any less of beta testers, however.

All Windows OS users are beta users, as long as you're not using pre-historic software anyway. They have been launching their products early for more than 10 years.

in the great majority of cases, the hardware is the same in most laptops. Say for instance you like X machine because you know it has a better wifi card, or a better ssd. Odds are, there are Dell options that have those or better hardware options.
