What is even worse is that none of those passengers decide to give up their seat to stop the incident. Instead they all had their cell phones out trying to post to you tube. It would have only taken 1 person to say "keep the Dr. on board, I will give up my seat for him". I guess making it home in time to watch Ellen is more important.

The company is going to pay a large amount of money to that man. There is a thing called "Contract of Carriage" which you sign when you buy a ticket and it includes this:

Under Rule 25—on page 35 if you print it out—the agreement says exactly what happens if the flight is oversold. “If there are not enough volunteers, other Passengers may be denied boarding involuntarily,” the language reads.

The problem is there is nothing about throwing a person ALREADY boarded the flight with a boarding pass. When you get a boarding pass, you're on the flight, no matter what.

Someone screwed during the check in procedure or when issuing boarding passes and this is completely company's liability and will be sued and charged, unless they settle for about $500k, and I wouldn't go for less.

I don't understand why most newspapers are running Syria stories Page one instead of this. Obviously some American's personal convenience is more important than a possible world war. The war in Syria is now 7,000 years old. There's no way it can be considered a lead news story, except maybe in the pages of Archeology Monthly.

The decline in customer service standards in America, and especially in transportation services, is news. Within my lifetime, airline passengers have gone from being treated as honoured guests to being treated like cattle on the way to the abattoir.

It's more of an interest piece to see how people are treated by the security services in countries like North Korea or the USA. In free countries like China or Europe people generally treat their police like shit rather than the other way around, so it's always curious to read about people who live under the brutal thumb of state oppression.
