The U.S. Coast Guard is pursuing an oil tanker in international waters near Venezuela, officials told Reuters on Sunday, in what would be the second such operation this weekend and the third in less than two weeks if successful.
Here is part of what Duk OMITS from his article, because he has an anti-USA and especially anti-Trump slant to his views of news and the facts:Dukasaur wrote: Sun Dec 21, 2025 6:10 pm High seas piracy is apparently now an accepted practice for the U.S. of A., which for two centuries has opposed piracy and championed freedom of navigation.

and more about the US Seizure of other such tankers, transporting oil to AVOID sanctions against Iran and Venezuela. They also give a HUGE savings to nations like China when selling oil in avoiding SANCTIONS, many put into effect to fund to help those rogue nations."The United States Coast Guard is in active pursuit of a sanctioned 'dark fleet' vessel that is part of Venezuela's illegal sanctions evasion," a U.S. official said. "It is flying a false flag and under a judicial seizure order."

The vessel, containing approximately 2 million barrels of heavy Venezuelan crude oil, was intercepted by a specialized force package involving the U.S. Coast Guard, Navy special operations teams, and assets from the USS Gerald R. Ford carrier strike group.
This event represents a critical escalation in the long-simmering tension between Washington and the administration of Nicolás Maduro in Caracas. While ostensibly a law enforcement action targeting sanctions evasion and “narco-terrorism” financing, the seizure of the Skipper is a signal of a new, more aggressive U.S. doctrine in Venezuela and in Latin America.
The Operation
The operation to seize the Skipper was not a routine customs inspection. It was a high-intensity maritime interdiction that blurred the traditional lines between law enforcement and military action. The complexity of the maneuver, executed in international waters, underscores the significant resources the United States has deployed to the Caribbean theater under “Operation Southern Spear.” (...)
The Skipper is no stranger to U.S. authorities. Before painting over its hull name, the vessel was known as the Adisa. Under this previous identity, it had been a marked target of the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control. In 2022, the Adisa was designated as blocked property due to its integration into a sprawling illicit shipping network run by Viktor Artemov, a Ukrainian national sanctioned for facilitating oil smuggling on behalf of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force and Hezbollah.

According to the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control, the Sagitta is a Panamanian-flagged vessel and is owned by Sunne Co Limited, which also owns several other U.S.-sanctioned vessels. It was allegedly part of a shadow fleet of vessels that transport oil from sanctioned nations such as Iran, Russia and Venezuela, the Treasury Department said.

The U.S. has seized seven Venezuelan-linked oil tankers since Dec. 10, 2025. Six of the seizures have occurred in the Caribbean region, and one in the North Atlantic.
Before commenting on the Headlines only, I wanted to learn MORE FACTS and gain a more thorough understanding of the matter. I think I waited an adequate period of time to render a more nuanced and more thorough perspective. I am sure Duk will find fault for SOMETHING I posted here. The oil tanker
Maritime risk company Vanguard Tech identified the vessel as the Skipper and said it believed the ship had been "spoofing" its position - or broadcasting a false location - for a long time.
Vanguard Tech said the vessel was "reported to be part of the dark fleet, and was sanctioned by the United States for carrying Venezuelan oil exports". The dark fleet refers to ships used to smuggle sanctioned goods.
It is believed to have left the oil port of Jose on either 4 or 5 December, with about 1.8 million barrels of heavy crude oil on board, with about 200,000 barrels transferred to another vessel before the seizure, Reuters reported, citing analysis from TankerTrackers.com and the Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA.

High seas piracy is apparently now an accepted practice for France. This morning, the French Navy boarded an oil tanker coming from Russia, subject to international sanctions and suspected of flying a false flag.
