Censorship of profile names

Just looking for a new game to join and some players names are a bit out of order for example i just so adolf hitler as a profile name is that a bit over board or is just me.

Well. You have an entire clan celebrating the known war-criminal Winston Churchill. Not only the aggressor, declaring war on Germany but also responsible for letting the English air force target civilians killing off millions of German woman and children. But of course, one probably shouldn't have expected something more from a guy that was in the same bed as Stalin...

Thus, your issue was ridiculous. Historical figures have to be taken for what they are. If you need censorship, I suggest that you shouldn't be using the internet to begin with.

haha, alster is a German who cant get over the fact that even with all the technological break throughs and advanced equipment, the ol' Germans couldnt pull off world domination, and ended up with their pants round their ankles. I'd also say he would also be a campaigner for 'The holocoust never happened' support group.

Further, when civilians are working in and living around factories manufacturing war materials, they cant be considered innocent. how many brits and americans do you think were killed by german u-boats?

Jebus... I have no intention to discuss any WW2 issues here. My key points was first that historical persons cannot be judged by today's standard. History is history. Hitler was part of WW2 history. If his name pops up as a CC alias, that's as unexpected as seeing Churchill, Stalin, Roosevelt etc. as alias (guys who all have a shitload of blood on their hands). Second, if you don't want to see a particular name, you shouldn't go on the internet to begin with (which, after all, is a place where you may be able to see all kinds of offending and tasteless material).

Any history discussions could be taken to the off-topic section.

Forget Churchill. It was an example. (Personally I find Churchill to be quite likable, and old school Englishman who wasn't ashamed of the Empire and he understood that the Empire brought civilization to all the dark corners of Earth.) Some people don't like Churchill, some people don't like Hitler, some people don't like Stalin etc. The winner writes history. However, to censor historical names are ridiculous. Start with one banned name, and it goes downhill from there. History is rarely black and white.

That may be true, and may be how the matter has to be approached from a standpoint of conqueror club rules, but you know the guy who picked adolf hitler only did it to start a commotion.

I agree that the thread went OT. Partly my fault for trying to make a point.

My point is this:
- Adolf Hitler was responsible for a lot of deaths.
- Winston Churchill was responsible for a lot of deaths (most of them civilian casualties).
- Franklin D. Roosevelt was responsible for a lot of deaths (a big part of them civilian) as well as putting people in concentration camps.
- Josef Stalin was responsible for a larger amount of death that most other leaders combined.
- And don't get me started on Mao who almost was as bad as Stalin...

Thus, if you wish to censor the Adolf Hitler name, you'll have a lot of other names going down as well (at least if you wish be consequent in your rationale). The problem is, if you censor one name, you enter into a slippery slope.
