I think that there are two main types of 1v1 players (well 3 actually - and the third - the middle ground - is probably the biggest):
Red - players who start games mainly because they have particular maps and/or settings that they want to play. These players have no idea whatsoever who will join their games.
Green - the players who join second and who get to pick the opposing player at least as much as the map/settings. And if those settings happen to be freestyle, then they will always get to take their turn immediately.
I am trying to pass no judgement on either, but was just curious to see what the balance is between hardcore 1v1 players.
BTW I am totally and utterly 100% a Red player - I like playing large and/or complex maps with no cards, chained or adjacent forts, and fog wherever possible. The very few games I have found with those settings I have joined as green, but those games are actually very tough as I am so used to being red.
I generally don't like playing 1v1 games, I only join them if someone famous is in them or if I'm bored during speed games. I'd never make one myself.
So I picked green.
Wicked, on the other hand, tends not to play anyone famous in a 1v1, especially if they're famous for being very good, because she is a chicken for life.
My set is a bone coat-of-arms and chandelier! How cool is that?
im a green player. i like being able to choose my opponents in 1v1 games. i check their feedbacks, and i dont wanna sound like a rankist, especially since im just a corporal 1st class/sergeant, but i don't like to risk all my points by having a cook join
red...i like to pick my settings. and i get bored so i create games...
9 games out od 10 i play as red. unless tourny 1v1 where it doesnt really matter
Completely false in my opinion. I play almost 100% red in my 1 vs 1 games and I'm currently something like 30-15 in the past 45. Of those, I've gone second many times and still won.
As a matter of fact, I destroyed a player today when I went second.

2044-164 ( 92%) almost green in all of them

And your point is? I'm sure there are plenty of players out there with a great winning percentage as the red player. AND they probably did it sequential which takes far more skill.
I will respect someone who can win going second in a sequential game on a consistent basis over someone who only joins in order to go first each time.
Assuming JR is correct (I don't play freestyle or 1v1, so I wouldn't know), I really don't find it sporting to troll around looking to take advantage of always being able to go first.
To me, this is not the same as playing a map or style of game that you enjoy and are familiar with/good at. Well, at least as long as you're willing to mix it up a bit and play people on "their home court" as well.
Making a point of joining freestyle games as green, on the other hand, smacks of poor sportsmanship.

Goddamn you are confusing me! I started reading that and thought WTH, when did I write that?!?
I love 1v1's.... and always make a bunch, so am mostly red. Confuses the hell outta me when I join one as green. Yes I'm confused easily. No, I'm not blonde, not even bottle blonde.
What I don't like is when I make ten open games at once and one person comes and joins all/most of them. I like to play a variety of people; not have the same person grab up all my open games all the time. But that's just me.

BTW, what's the story with the Chicken deal anyway?

the poll is are you red or green. I play green to win and have a high wining percentage. the poll did not ask about respect. thats what is nice about this site. there are many options to play and choose from. each style takes some kind of skill that not all players have for each option. play what you want. think what you want. the options are there for everyone to choose from. there are no more "leet" options than the rest or this option gains more respect. no respect should be applied towards players that cheat to gain points. secret alliances/multis.

I like to fnd my special maps/settings, and work 1 vs. 1's to my advantage. When you're very good at one specific format, it doesn't matter if a cook or conqueror joins.

looks like playing first is best to me
Woot I'm the 1 in the 99-1 Do I get a prize? lol
uh no! - you went first in that game so you are part of the 19. the only person to beat me going first so far is DBandit70 (and only because he had a bonus on the drop that was hidden in the fog!)
I used to play mostly red, just to try out new maps. After concluding that the first move is such a major factor for some maps, I now will only play green on those maps and limit my opponsents to ones that its worth the effort to play against. For other maps / setting combinations that I consider balanced, I'll open the game and play red with whoever comes along.
