Post by War Dog »

I have created a map of Jamaica The Map currently has 11 terriortys and three contenients

Each conteientis worth the following:

green:3

yellow:4

blue:2

Let me know if u think any changes are needed
the 11 terriortys represent the 11 parishes of jamaica
and yes i know i need to add a legend

It's a nice map however you might need more territories 11 isn't enough (unless it's like doodle earth). Also, make the map of Jamaica bigger so you can fit more into it. The legend is the last thing you should do, getting the map all ready and presentable is the main thing. And also use something other than paint ( Trust me )

I count 13 territories (14 if kindston is supposed to be a name for something) , not 11...

Anyway, you are going to need a HUGE improvement in graphics for this to even stand a chance. I'm hoping that this is just an example image, and a better one will come later.
If this is your first time using GIMP, I suggest that you pause this map for a while, find some good tutorials, and practice making all kinds of different stuff. Then when you are good at making images in GIMP, re-start this map with awesome graphics. Look at the maps that are already finished. You need to be able to at least match, if not surpass the quality of graphics on the completed maps for this to be finished.

Good luck.

11 is very small number of terits. Also you have to many empty spaces.

you'll get more support on this if your next version looks a lot better and has more territories. Right now it just doesn't have enough.

The problem with so few territories is that with high numbers of players in a game, you would only start with one territory each. With 6, 7, or 8 players, only one territory to start. That is a problem because people can get eliminated in the first round. It gives a huge advantage to whoever goes first.
I think 16 territories would be the absolute minimum, because it would always gurantee at least 2 starting territories. But that is still really small, and a map with that few of territories would be difficult to bring up, because Doodle Earth already has the small map theme covered. If you could make the image bigger and fit something like 20 or 24 territories in, that would be great.

I like the idea of this map, but I don't like your prototype. Feel free to blow off what I'm going to suggest as hot air, but there are already plenty of small to medium size territory based "country" maps. And, while some people like a geography lesson on Jamaica's provinces, it is more likely that your potential audience is going to be familiar with the region/city names where the resort / tourist crowd goes. If you pick up a guide book you'll realize that very few of the names on your map are even mentioned there. If you make this into more of a "mogul" map, where the beach fronts have special bonus attributes, maybe some other beach fronts have hurricane damage negative bonuses, where you can hold the roads (my recollection is that the whole island is spanned by a single 2 lane road) to get more strategic advantage, etc. that would be very cool. More like a small version of Midkemdil (i.e., territories being the routes / junction points rather than the "land") that would be something that I don't think has been done before.

Good luck
My ever constant two last games seem to have no end in sight!

Moved into retirement - it has been a couple of months since the last post, and it doesn't look like the mapmaker is working on it any more.
