Is That Alec Baldwin? [Offensive To Some]

Post by Sentinel XIV »

WARNING: This is probably not for those with weak constitutions.

Well, is it?

I'm not a vegetarian, but there has to be a better way to do it. Does anyone know about any companies that are using natural ways to produce meat products?

You can never be sure. I didn't, and don't plan on, watching the video, but I can guess what it is probably about. If it is about how crowded the animals are (or how small the cage is, in the case of chickens) then there is really no regulation. They could claim to give each animal an acre of space while really having the worst overpopulation problem of any company and nobody would be there to regulate it. If you mean all of the hormones/constant stream of low doses of antibiotics (not enough to actually kill a disease, but enough that they don't show signs of being sick, or in other words a huge breeding ground for a super-bug) then there are a number of companies that claim to be organic, but again, there is no regulation. They could use the most hormones of anybody and call themselves organic. In general, meat is very unregulated. The federal government just doesn't have enough resources allocated to actually being able to aptly regulate the meat supply. It usually takes an animals rights activist getting inside a slaughter house and filming them killing downer cattle (cattle that can no longer get up for whatever reason, which is dangerous because they have a higher risk of having a disease you really don't want to eat) before the feds will actually send somebody down to investigate.

I don't know the deal in the US, but in the UK to call something "organic" means complying with very strict criteria, which are enforced.
"Free Range" is subject to a little more abuse, but there are still rules.

Horrific video but unfortunately nothing new.
I love animals and the thought of the suffering so many of them go through is abhorrent.

I could never be a vegetarian though, which I admit may be rather hypocritical but, like most people, all thoughts of the inhumanity of it tend to fly out of my mind when I see a nice juicy steak.

I do try to buy organic meat whenever I can but it's so damn expensive.
I definitely avoid non-organic chicken entirely now - they can be abused beyond any other animal yet survive and are so pumped full of steroids and antibiotics it can't help but be harmful to ingest the meat.

If you're looking for a healthy alternative for any meat, ostrich is the one. Ostiches are surprisingly delicate, and need good food and a healthy enviroment to survive. It would be impossible to mistreat them and expect them to grow past one week, let alone to adulthood.
The meat is very like steak, though even lower in fat and cholesterol than chicken.

Yes I know I'm one big sonofabitch for not caring, but oh well. Having worked with those animals many times it is pretty apparent to me that the reason most people don't care is because those animals are dumber than f*ck. The reason that they need to use such "barbaric" methods like the electric prod is because they can't kindly ask the animal to move, they castrate them because Little Bo Peep isn't gonna politly ask that they don't procreate. And finally their throats are slit because it is the easiest, cheapest, and often one of the most humane was of killing them. The only thing I care about in regards to the meat industry is if it is safe for me to eat. So far so good.

Happy Grilling.
The big trouble with dumb bastards is that they are too dumb to believe there is such a thing as being smart.
