New England Map

Post by Molacole »

It needs a ton of work still I know, but I was just wondering what everyone thinks before I spend more time on it. The colours are most likely going to be changed and I haven't decided a theme for the map yet. Probably go with a snow storm maybe to justify the borders or something. Haven't given that part of it much thought yet. I'm just curious if the community thinks it looks good as far as playability goes.

I'm also considering shortening Maine so I can enlarge everything else.

rework is this too big?

I might make Maine a tad smaller..... so the other "countries" can be bigger.

Also, you may want to consider adding a tiny bit of Canada..... maybe as an additional (small) continent..... or maybe as a part of the New Hampshire or VT "countries"?

Just a thought.

What also might help is eliminating some of the smaller areas.

EX: Knox or Lincoln in Maine.... etc.

Don't use paint. I'd strongly suggest something like Inkscape.

Right now the continents seem to have too many countries and too few borders. Vermont has 14 countries and 3 borders. Continents like that seem almost impossible to capture because there are so many territories, but once you do they would be easy to hold and reap large bonuses. Maybe that's what you're going for though, I don't know. It just seems untraditional in the format.

This is an instance where I think exploding the continents (like in the USA map) would be a good idea. Just drawing a large red dividing line doesn't look very good.

Also, you need colors that are not so similar. It's almost impossible to distinguish between RI and Connecticut.

the colours are just to fill in the blanks for now. I was planning on doing shading and the works to give more of a terrain feel to it instead of one plain solid colour. The borders are just to show playability. It needs many hours of work to even be considered ready for xml...

I noticed the bonuses do have a ton of territories to capture and comparing with the other maps it's probably not going to be a fast played map. That's one of the reasons I'm undecided as to wether or not I want to continue with it. I figured it would be a bit of a change from the norm, but if it's not a welcomed change then I'll scrap it and maybe see if I can do something else. I'll try and figure something out to make it look more presentable if that helps.

Being from Beantown, I LOVE the idea. I think there's way too many "countries" though.
