Right this probably gets asked all the time but I just can't get my head around it. I've played about 10 games now and pretty much the same thing happens except for once and I easily won the game.
The thing that's killing me is the 3v3 battles, I seem to lose them a lot when they attack me... I have yet to win a single 3v3 when attacking. I've got it down to 3v1 but when I attack again I lose everytime. I just don't even get a chance to use tactics as I'm already dead trying to move. I understand the odds are against the attacker but I'm losing loads when defending.
Yeah I get that but what's killing me is my enemies are attacking 3v3 and winning... I mean how? I've lost count the number of times I've attacked 1 with 3 and lost lol!

The rolls are determined by dice. And dice average out, so if they are sometimes better or worse, just shrug it off and don't change your strategy. The attacks mentioned above rely heavily on luck, which you do not want to be doing if you do not have a lot of it.
No way, 3v1 is a lock. Roll it when you can safely advance (or stay). And yes, I do mean 2 dice against 1. I roll it all the time in two player games. It's often the difference between winning and losing.
To the OP: Have a look at http://gamesbyemail.com/Games/Gambit/BattleOdds There's a table that gives you all the odds for each individual roll, and if you have a plan for a bunch of rolls (like a sequence of attacks to eliminate a player), you can punch in the numbers and find out how you'll fare.
I think it was brought up earlier, but some people think a 3 vs 3 means that the attacker is actually getting 3 dice, but in reality, the attacker is only rolling 2 because 1 has to stay on that territory, and a 2 vs 2 is never a good bet
To the OP...
Unlike ACTUAL dice, CC dice are streaky and the defender often will roll many consecutive 6's.
This has been discussed in great length, and CC admin always defends the dice as being "random", but all you have to do is watch the results of your attacks to see that they are, indeed, streaky.
My suggestion is to avoid attacking with anything less than double the number of armies that the defender has.
3 vs. 3 is rarely going to win even with real dice (remembering - the defender wins ties), but with CC dice the chances of prevailing in that scenario is very rare.
