Iraq Map: playability issues

Post by sgapaulmyers »

If you have a problem with the whole concept of the Iraq map, please voice your concern in the other thread. This thread is for discussion of playability issues and how it could be divided up.

Here is a very rough image I made. Iraq has 18 regions and 102 districts.

I know the populated side is to the east, but there are too many huge territories compared to all the small ones.

We don't want to get too much into Iraq's neighbours here, but trading/travel routes are very important ... perhaps some kind of bonus for holding them? After all, that's how many of the fighters are coming in, isn't it?

Perhaps points along highways and rivers that would allow access from one part of the country to the other side? That way, it could play out like how the resistance simply can hop all over the country.

I do not like it AT ALL!!!
it looks all scrambled and very unorganized. to me it looks very similar to hitting a piece of glass with a hammer and pretending that it is a map. if you actually are considering pursuing this idea, i highly reccomend you to trash it now. if you decide to attempt to make it playable, it needs a MAJOR remake of everything.

small countries need to be joined
large countries need to be broken up
the borders should be made to look more clear
make the text readable.
make it visually appealing.
use an art program that can do something good
change the colors.
change the background
change EVERYTHING
have someone else make it cause even for a rough draft it sucks.

If you dont agree with me, then edit your post and add a poll to this thread so we can se what everyone else thinks.

This is a rough draft. I threw it together very fast. At this point I am only looking to see if it could work playability wise. Only then, will I worry about asthetics.

There are many ways to divide Iraq. I think we should have overlapping bonus "continents", a bonus for holding all the airports, all the land routes in and out of Iraq, etc.

Also, don't forget the Sunni triangle.

Fallujah is a good crossing point between the rivers.

No, it doesnt work. We understand its not artistic for now, but you should try again about playability, too. As the guy said, you need a better territory dispersion, so we can think better about continents.
