The more I hear the ramblings of this out of touch archaic moron, the more respect I loose for anything remotely Catholic. This turd is killing more Africans through his ancient stands on birth contol then colonialism.
Read the comments below the article at this link. Does anyone think Pope Sith is fit to lead?

It is of great concern that the fabric of African life, its very source of hope and stability, is threatened by divorce, abortion, prostitution, human trafficking and a contraception mentality," he added.
Yeah, all those problems are about equivalent. Having sex is just like trafficking in people.

Not to mention that a good deal of "African life" is far removed from hope and stability.

A quick study of history will show you that the Catholic church has given us far worse than they are able to give now. If they've been rendered powerless enough that all they can do is waggle fingers at the immoral, i can live with that. Better by far than an inquisition or a crusade. Is the present pope fit to lead? Hell, considering the plethora of altar boy diddlers they had to choose from . . .

And they do. The Catholic church in particular and Christian churches in general have tens of thousands of missionaries in Africa running schools, refugee camps, hospitals, orphanages, etc. Every year, first world Christians send hundreds of millions of dollars to aid the third world.
I don't mean to imply that other groups do not, just to point out that the Church does do a great deal of good there. Let's not forget that.

question what works 100% of the time to make the diesase not spread? while aka i think its what the pope said. oh yeah it is ABSTANICE is the one thing that will make aids go away for good

. Condoms do help prevent the spread of hiv but do not work 100%. so my question is if you were dieing form somthing would you want the cure that works 100% or would you obt for one that works less then 100% of the time?

They only kill themselves in the long run anyway - maybe the pope is helping speed the process

Nice, if you live in a country with "western" sensibilities.
In Africa, women marry young, often in arranged marriages and saying "no" just is not an option.
Furthermore, in many cases women have such poor medical care that they are likely to die (and their child, of course) or get a fistula or other problems.

Ya, you're talking about a country here where people think that if you have sex with a virgin that you'll be cured of AIDS. People will rape babies to do this. And look how well abstinence only education has worked in the US. I'm sure it'll do wonders for Africa...

This is very true but it does not disguise the fact that the Pope is putting dogma before human lives, he is in in a position to make things better but he is doing the opposite.....its an act of pure evil.

I have heard that talc, which is used on condoms, is suspected of being associated with cervical cancer.
http://info.cancerresearchuk.org/cancerstats/types/ovary/riskfactors/ wrote:A systematic review has been conducted to attempt to clarify the evidence regarding this potential risk factor. Sixteen papers contributed data to the meta-analysis (a total of 11,933 subjects from 15 case control studies and one cohort study). Overall results showed a statistically significant increased risk associated with talc use, RR = 1.33 (95%CI 1.16 to 1.45). However, further inspection of the data failed to show any clear relationship between dose and response, and therefore the authors of the review concluded that this association is likely to be spurious and due to uncontrolled confounding or selection biases13. Since then, a combined analysis of two case-control studies showed a RR of 1.36 (95%CI 1.14 to 1.63) for regular talc use, and a significant trend of increasing risk with more frequent use.37 A third case-control study reported an OR of 1.17 (95%CI 1.01 to 1.36) for ovarian cancer for women who reported perineal use of talcum powder and a significant trend with years of use.49
Just saying... maybe God told Pope that condoms were actually bad for women.

Yes well perhaps if the local priests set an example....
In 2001 The Vatican acknowledged ( after 3 years of denial ) that certain African priests, because of the fear of HIV amongst the local girls, had targeted nuns for their sexual activities. Reported cases involved wholesale pregnancies ( 27 in one convent alone ) rape, abortion and forcing nuns to take the contraceptive pill. When asked why the nuns did not resist it was pointed out that in many African cultures it was extremely difficult to refuse a man, especially an elder man and even more so if that man happened to be a priest.
The point is that abstinance is not natural and difficult at the best of times, in Africa it is totaly unfeasible, if priests and nuns cannot resist then what chance have ordinary people.
The Pope is well aware that what he says is not practical , he is taking what he sees as a moral stance in the full knowledge that he is condemning very many people to an early death. Ironically if a certain pope had not met ( some might say very suspiciously ) with sudden demise 30 years ago then we would not have this debate, he wished to loosen the churches stance on contraception but did not get the chance

I would also note that abstinence is not 100% effective at preventing the spread of disease. And saying silly things like that only hurt the cause.

Neoteny is absolutely right. AIDS is spread through needle sharing as well (plus other methods), but aside from that (since one could argue that abstinence means to abstain from all behaviors that could lead to HIV infection), one needs look no farther than the tragic genocide that took place in Rwanda in 1994 for an example.
Rape and mass rape were used as weapons by the Hutus against the Tutsis. Many thousands of women have contracted AIDS as a result and often passed the disease on to the progeny that sprung forth from those marauding rapists.
It's absolutely horrible.

Except a lot of condoms DON'T use talc...
(and if you read through your synopsis even, you see the main point is that most of the studies were biased and the 2 recent ones show only a slight increase for women who use talc all the time... )
I suppose you believe the poppycock that AIDS was created to eradicate homosexuals, too.?
You know, it wasn't so long ago that Tuberculosis was "shameful" and "the result of poor morality associated with poverty".

Sorry that you seem to have taken offense, but I said that "I heard" that talk causes cervical cancer. But the last sentence of my citation tells me that there is likely a trend towards correlation of cervical cancer and talk powder.
I definitely do not believe that AIDS was manufactured to eradicate homosexuals, I believe that it has always been around, only became more wide spread as global travels became more prevalent. I also don't believe that the pope did not take his opinion on condom use based on any science, rather, that abstinence is the preferred method of birth control. To be sure, I think that, for several reasons, he is right about that. Condoms are not 100% safe against STD's nor do they claim to be 100% effective against pregnancy. Also, if you are having sex with lots of people, then you are exposing yourself to all kinds of social and potentially life threatening dangers.

The problem is that the Pope is not just making a scientific, and yes, factual statement that "abstinence is better". He is making a
moralistic pronouncement. Further, not even a light one ... he compares condoms and even divorce to prostitution and human trafficking ... THOSE comparisons put his talk well beyond a simple pronouncement that "abstinence is best"
It is of great concern that the fabric of African life, its very source of hope and stability, is threatened by divorce, abortion, prostitution, human trafficking and a contraception mentality," he added.
Furthermore, the church has the power and is USING that power to prevent
instruction in any non-abstinence method of birth control for even adult,
married women.
Its like saying that firemen passing out fire extinguishers and smoke alarms is wrong because it gives people the idea that its OK to be careless with fire.

I do see what you are saying, and I mostly agree with you. In actually I was half kidding about my initial post, but I do think that condom use should be considered only secondary to the preferred abstinence.
Your analogy is not very sound, because fire can occur without the misuse of fire... it can occur due to chemical mishap as well as electrical failure. I hardly can think of a way that a person can accidentally misuse his penis. Sex is an intentional thing.
