I will add to your map some flare and spice! (Who's next?)

Post by mibi »

So in my desire to procrastinate from my regular design gigs, I am offering my services for free.

Here is how it works. If you want your map 'spiced up' or 'zinged with flare' or tweaked by myself, just post the image here. If I think I can help, then you can pm a link to the PSD (sorry no gimps). Then I will make a few small changes that I think would make the map look a bit better. Of course you don't have to accept or like my suggestions, no worries.

I am hoping for Foundry proper or final forge maps. Give it a shot, could be fun.

Ok, here is the first victim.

The greenland map.

I thought this map was already pretty solid, design wise.

Changes:

1. Darkened the sea using a radial gradient
2. Redid the title using Verdana with a icey/frozen treatment.
3. Moved the bear up a big and put the phrase on 3 lines.
4. Removed the glow from the dotted routes and the entire land mass.

I thought everything else didn't need any refinement, nice work k.44!

k.44, feel free to use any or none of the changes.

Nice job, You have a good eye mibi, and do indeed know how to sprinkle the spice. 8-)
Every one of your changes, albeit suttle, has given this map more depth, color, and clarity.

44. is not my favorite person, but he does have some talent. I like his map. So, I will offer a helpful suggestion. Make the bonus legion smaller, and trade places with it and the bear.

I love what mibi has done - I think you should incorporate all of it. This map looks great! What about verdana for the territory font as well, with a little iciness to it also?

I think the gradient should run south to north - after all - the sea/ocean gets colder the further north...

Of course this will ruin the new look of the title which I love with the dark outline.

Discussion about the Greenland Map should probably be contained within the map development thread.

We are just discussing the changes I have made. I am sure k.44 will be posting any updates to the map in his thread.

In some other cases, MOd will move these to related map topic, but these is mibi, and maybe mod will not do that.
If someon have sugestion abouth some map, then its normal to post in ,in these case Grenland topic, what is purpose to open topic here?

The purpose of this topic is mibi's offer of help as set out in his opening post.

Please keep this thread to discussion/requests for mibi-help, or I may need to bring out the padlock ;-)

Another victim, Chess.

Changes:

Basically, I wanted to bring more realism to the map, using an actual board, some shadows, nice wood and rich and warm colors. Keeping all the colors in the CMYK gamut. White became off-ivory, etc. Some of the peices may be off center, i never touched those. I also changed the text line spacing a bit. I think this feels more like a methodical game of chess than the previous version which was pretty good, but had too many overt filters, glows, and bevels.

Pretty snazzy, mibi. I'll run a poll in the thread to see what people prefer. Thanks very much! :)

I like this map as is, so I don't think there is any real need to flare it out.

nice work.

I'm not the mouthpiece of mibi, but I would imagine that he would rather look at maps that have a good likelihood of making it to the quench zone, which is why he specifically mentioned Main Foundry / Final Forge maps?

Just to elaborate on Benn, I don't have a percentage but a large % of maps in the drafting room end up dying in ideas or in the bin so I would press Mibi not to do these maps do to this being a "spice up" and for maps nearing the end, not right at the beginning
(Just wanted to elaborate on Benn and add my opinion in case Mibi was planning on doing it for these maps)
