Chemistry Research Project

I'm having worlds of trouble coming up with a senior research project to do for next semester, and I need to have a topic within a week. To any of the chemistry (or science) people on this forum, I would appreciate any ideas that you have that would be appropriate for a college senior to do. My preferences are in inorganic or analytical chemistry. My university has the following high-dollar instruments: GC, HPLC, FTIR, UV-VIS, Chem-Anal, Polarimeter, Refractometer, Spectrometer, and I may be able to gain access to an MS or NMR. If anyone has any ideas, please post them.

I'd help if I hadn't slept through chemistry. I can use an HPLC, but I couldn't tell you why I'd want to.

I say make a volcano and then use baking soda and vinegar to cause the eruption. That was my favorite chemistry project.

Along what lines?

I started A project measuring the antioxidants in Tea (worlds number 1 drink behind water) compared to other drinks, such as hot chocolate, juice, and other drinks high in antioxidants. I did the project because anitoxidants have been shown to reduce the risk of cancer and some other stuff I dont remember but I have the basis for the experiment all written out, it was a high school project though but we didnt have a Spectrometer so I couldnt finish. You will have to revise it if you feel like using it. I can send you the file if you want just pm me.

Well if you've done some extensive undergrad research in the area of chemistry or chemical engineering that would probably make for a good research seminar just by continuing it and developing a thesis for it. Or over the past 4 years as a chem. major I assume you've studied or seen something very interesting that you could expand on.

BTW. I really doubt you're gonna find any chemistry-related majors ( ) on this site, why not go to a physics forum on the net.

If you don't have a topic already, looking at contamination of just about anything is always a good one, particularly if its something supposed to be "pure".

However, I think the best idea was to expand on something you have already done or (wink, wink) that is closely related to what your professor might have done before... the trick is to be close, but not so close that you are copying your professor (unless your professor likes pure clones.. most don't, in my experience).
