SO WHAT
For those metal-heads out there, history aside, who do you prefer, Metallica or Megadeth?

Metallica has become shite, Megadeth hasn't yet.

Nevertheless, Metallica has made plenty of amazing songs. Not to mention their most recent album wasn't half-bad. They redeemed themselves with that album. Not completely, but somewhat.

Well, they both win the award of "fucking old."

I've probably listened to more Metallica, but that's not so much a comment on quality as quantity.

So what if they're old? Plenty of people still listen to The Beatles and The Who and they are waaaay older than Metallica. Age has nothing to do with skill. If anything, skill comes with age.

How so? I'll admit, St. Anger was a failure, but it was an attempt to try something new. Other than that, they have always been great.

Well, I absolutely love songs like Fade to Black, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Nothing Else Matters, etc., but some of their more hardcore songs - not all, but some - are just kind of mediocre in my opinion, even leaving out St. Anger. Enter Sandman and I Disappear are both pretty boring, in my opinion, for example.

Enter Sandman is definetly one of the most overrated songs of all time, but it is still pretty good. However, in my opinion, their hardcore songs are their best (trust me, I LOVE Fade to Black, Sanitarium, and Nothing Else Matters), like Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning, and For Whom the Bell Tolls (basically, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets are my favorite albums by Metallica).

Sure, Master of Puppets is also great, and Ride the Lightning has an awesome guitar solo, and For Whom the Bell Tolls is alright. I'm just saying there are times when Metallica is just boring.

What you may find boring others may find to be something utterly different. It depends on what you look for in music. Believe it or not, I know people who think AC/DC is better than Metallica :-s :-s :-s :-s

Leaning toward Metallica here...if Cliff hadn't died, this wouldn't be a discussion. St Anger was a failure, but the new album is good except for some of the lyrics..."Love is a 4 letter word" sounds like a bumper sticker.

Megadeth is harder, faster and less refined. That is why I am not so crazy abou tthem, and just own one of their best of's and also Killing is my Business...cassette tape!

AC/DC only has one song, but they change the lyrics and make minimal changes to the rhythm and melody to create an illusion of several albums.

That doesn't make them bad, just not very diverse.

Metallica's older stuff is way better than Megadeth's older shit...Metallica did not even try with their new cd, ...but Megadeth did great with United Abominations, almost as good as Countdown To Extinction with Symphony of Destruction...
Every one knows Enter the Sandman, not sure if David help write it

But after he got fired from Metallica, you gotta love his retaliation song Go To Hell

I'll have to download it

Seriously though, I don't know how I missed this thread.

Metallica had more good songs but I think the good songs Megadeth had were a little better. That coupled with the fact that Lars is a tool makes me say Megadeth wins.
