No.

Vegetarianism is a freaky cult.

You're an omnivore. Get over it.

I'm a veggie. Lots of advantages - cheaper, healthier and (I've been told) your "man mustard" tastes better.

To Spuzzell: So what? Have you seen what the breeders do to the animals? They are not treated humanly and spend their life in a tight space in realy bad environments. I don't support that and thats why im a vegetarian.

It's only healthy if you know how to do it. Most vegitarians I know are so because they are protesting something and they think they can live souly on fruits and veggies.

It's easy to eat right as a vegetarian nowerdays. There are many products and many books and websites with info and advice. You don't need to eat meat, but you can't just live on fruit and vegetables. You need vitamins and minerals from pills. You also need protein from beans and other products.

If you buy shit food, then yeah, the conditions are bad for the animals.

The answer is to buy from good sources, not harm yourself by denying your body the nutrients and proteins it needs.

It's the same with cheap vegetables, if you buy crap then it's covered with pollutants and grown with slave labour in Tanzania, spend a bit more and you get good stuff grown locally.

Vegetarianism, for those who don't have it forced on them by having genetic abnormalities, is a form of self harm.

I equate it with Tom Cruise, scientology and jumping around on Oprah Winfrey's sofa. It's odd, weird and frankly disturbing.

My sister and my girlfriend have dietetic degrees, I know what I'm talking about.

Another thing is that I don't like the feeling of eating a animal. I realy like animals and don't whant one to be killed just so that I can eat. We have other options. I respect people not being vegetarians and hope they do the same to me. And i you choose to eat meat I agree with Spuzzell, buy good meat from farms where the animals have a more worthy life.

I feel bad for vegetarians to be honest

I wish I could say I respect your point of view, but I can't, the same way I can't respect people with other eating disorders, like bulimia or anorexia. I can empathise, offer sympathy and support, but I think vegetarianism is an eating disorder, not a lifestyle choice.

How can you think vegetarianism is an eating disorder. I have empathy for the animals and whant to take care of my body. This conversation is over, you have obviesly been brainwashed and are very narrow minded.

Ok, either you're being tricked or you're fricken stupid. There is no way it's healthier if you put so little thought into it.

Well go ahead and live in your own world where everything is good for you just because you think it is. Don't you dare believe proven scientific research.

How can you make vital nutritional decisions.. solely based on YOUR opinion? Didn't you speak to a doctor or a dietician? Or do even basic research?

Vegetarianism will harm you, your future children and their future children. But hey, you have your opinion, so thats OK.

LINK?

I was just reading in the NYT about how people with super-low calorie (less than 1500/day) diets seem to be the healthiest and live the longest, compared to people who have any other kind of diet. I don't think you could possibly get that low eating animal products. Then again, just because something's vegetarian doesn't mean it's low calorie and healthy.

The only necessary nutrient found in meat and not in any vegetables that I can think of is vitamin A, though perhaps there are others. Beta carotene is a moderately effective, but sometimes inadequate, substitute. You can take supplements, but I have no idea how they'd replicate vitamin A retinols without using animal products... Hmm...

But really, you're being reactionary and crazy. Both mille and spuzzel. While I am a meat eater, and I agree with spuzzel that being repulsed by poor conditions on factories farms is an inadequate reason to become a vegetarian, you two are being the real loonies here. I think you're absolutely wrong and unqualified to say that vegetarianism is a plague that will surely kill you (I'm being hyperbolic here, but so are you). While veganism certainly has its problems, I think you'll be hard-pressed to find many reliable doctors or studies who think that vegetarianism is less healthy than the average diet.

I wasn't saying specifically that a Vegitarian diet is unhealthy. Though it may have sounded like that, I was just making a point that s.xkitten is too stupid for her own good if she believes something is healthier than something else just because she thinks it is. I know that it can infact be healthier if done right. But many foolish people I know are vegitarians because they would rather save an animal than be healthy themselves and they don't do the proper research, so they think they can survive on grapefruits and cellery.

umm, yes, actually i have spoken to a doctor, and a dietician...both of them recommended it for my lifestyle...so no, i'm not to stupid for my own good...and no, it won't harm my children, or me...and where would be your proof that it will harm them?

My parents are also small-scale farmers who humanely raise, care for, and kill their animals. However, only a very, very small proportion of the animal products eaten in the U.S., Europe, Canada, etc, come from farms like theirs and yours. Most animals used for food come from factory farms where they're treated cruelly and subjected to a dark, dirty existence.
