Boston is my favourite city in the USA, of the one I've been to.

Boston's cool, but they should turf the redneck republican racist bigots in favour of more roller derby babes. I figure 10 rednecks for 1 babe is a good trade.

What does the verb "turf" mean in this post? Does it mean trade?

Are you implying any of the following?

-> That I am a Republican? (I'm not.)

-> That I am a racists?
(I'm not. I could be black for you know... but of course being black would not preclude me from being racist.)

-> That I am a bigot?
(I may be depending on how you define the word.)

-> That there are any Roller Derby Babes already in Boston.
(If you know of any and/or where they hang out please let me know.)

That being said, I've been to Detroit and it was a horrible experience.

Buffalo might well be a candidate.

I was just gonna say... "this person has never been to Boston, obviously .." rednecks tend to lean more to the right (evangelical vote) and Boston is filled with lefties .....
ever heard of the People's Republic of Cambridge? .... :lol:

Ol' Saxi used to live on 78th between 3rd & Lex and, verily, it was dreadful. Of course, that was 20 years ago so perhaps it's changed since then. So much noise, and so many people, and garbage, and odors and whozit and whatzit and this and that and comings and goings.

Ol' Saxi is quite happy in Santa Barbara. It reminds him of growing up back in Saxony, except with better weather, a nicer landscape, more voluptuous women, greater entertainment options, finer wine, no bomb damage and spelled differently.

Bomb damage? I'm pretty sure there's very little of that here.

I'm pretty sure they aren't the city with the highest murder rate anymore, though I could be wrong.

I voted St. Louis, because it brings nothing to the table except a lame monument, a big river - that plenty of other cities can claim - and some barbecue that I can get in Texas, which will be much better.

Oh, and the left fielder for their beisbol team can't catch a fly ball.

Ack! You ignorant fuckhead! You cast aspersions on the true manna from heaven!

When i was in the war in 69 we could be in the middle of the fooking bush where the snakes and a leopard or two would get you before Charlie, and sure as shit some mamasan would materialize out of nowhere with Ramen Noodles for 25 cents a pack (the only overpriced thing in Nam). We prefered them to C Rats and we didn't have to carry cans and shit around - mamasan would always be there. We'd cook them over an empty can filled with rocks and a bit of diesel fuel or just soak them in water when fire was not prudent.

When i got back home my parents and brothers thought i was suffering PTSS from the horrors of war when actually i was jonesing for Ramen Noodles. I didn't realize this until a couple months later when i chanced upon Ramen Noodles in a Korean grocery in San Fransisco. I met a couple of coeds from Berkeley there who were also buying Ramen Noodles - wut?

It seems that college kids had grokked on Ramen Noodles in the same way that soldiers in Nam had. The two coeds from Berkeley received some kind of epiphany from this and took me home with them. I lived with them for a month or so and we ate a lot of Ramen Noodles. Do not be so gauche as to question the taste, texture, or nutritional value of this wondrous food.

Ahh a fellow vet, good to meet you sir!

I remember well my time in the Foo King Bush, a miserable place filled with scorpions and land-mines.

What regiment were you BK? I was 55th Airborne.

Hit me up with a few PMs, it'd be good to share some tales of daring-do and napalming farmsteads.

I'm familiar with the 101st, 82nd and 173rd Airborne but i can't remember the 55th. I was with the 75th Rangers. If you were a medic over there you have my undying respect.

Were you a Ranger, H?

Perhaps my attempted jocularity, anemic though as it may have been, in this thread-

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=121267&p=2671359&hilit=+scrolling+the+road+#p2671359

- was not totally lost on The Club, then. I fear the reference may have gone over or under the heads of most.

No i caught it. Did they teach you the secret of Nuk Mom in your NVA days? If you were in the NVA then you're no doubt familiar with the 75th - we were the ones you couldn't quite find in the bush.

NVA = National Volksarmee

not

NVA = North Vietnam Army

ol' Saxi has never been within 1,000 kilometers of Vietnam

Thought it was a little far out for you to actually have been in the North Vietnamese Army, but with you one can never be quite sure.
