As far as you trying to justify your LIFE after you live it is NOT what I see happening. Judgement Day happens based on the Life you Lived, not on your attempts to rationalize your behavior, mistakes, attempts, and decisions made DURING your life. I do not see God similar a Judge on the Supreme Court (or in a Court of the Laws of men); his Laws and Ways are above man's ways. If you view of judgement is correct, we all need to be lawyers, as if we do not already have enough lawyers in the USA.
You're entitled to your view. No-one knows what will happen when we die; if it is indeed a Judgement Day, who is to be the judge? Someone who wasn't able to convince most people to believe in them? As shown on Red Dwarf, the only person entitled to judge you is yourself.
I'm not sure what the difference is between "the Life you Lived" and "your behavior, mistakes, attempts, and decisions made DURING your life". Isn't that the life you lived?
You missed that phrase about
" your attempts to rationalize "
THAT is a rather HUGE Miss.
Your arguments here are not valid:
"man-mades rules?" NO
Your opinion. My opinion: all religious rules are invented by people, not received from deities. You cannot prove otherwise, it's only a belief, based on what someone may or may not have said centuries ago, which isn't proof at all.
I doubt there will EVER be ANY proof to make you happy or willing to accept ANY religious views. I figured that out a long time ago, that faith is found via the Heart, NOT the Head (intellect). You, Apatheist, look for answers in the wrong places and using the wrong means and wrong tools. You missed that memo, as you apparently missed other signs. You do not open yourself to the POSSIBLITY of Religion; NO wonder you DO NOT GET IT.
"Eternity in the Wrong Place"? Basically, only TWO, so bogus argument.
Incorrect on two counts. There are at least 5 options: oblivion, reincarnation, paradise, torment, purgatory. Just because you have no argument, it doesn't make mine bogus.
You overly complicate matters: up or down, not 3 sideways. You do not really allow for eternal condemnation, either. Good luck discussing THAT on Judgement Day. Be sure to hire a good lawyer to take with you on that Day, Apatheist.
"no-one even knows which religion they need to believe" Pick one; you seem to LOVE to criticize and denegrate Christianity, in any form. I suppose our resident Muslim in no longer around. The same for the one who (apparently follows) one or more Chinese reigious ideas, or at least, Chinese notions to try to irritate those who believe in Western Democracies and the Freedom they espouse.
I'll quite happily slag off any religion, it's just that I've only encountered evangelical Christians on here. If a Muslim, Sikh, Hindu or whatever came on and proclaimed their views to be the only true ones, I'd be happy to point out the flaws in their belief system (eg what happens to the 72 virgins after they're no longer virgins?). My view remains that they can't all be right, so there's no mileage in believing in any of them.
However, "picking" a religion just to ward off future problems, when you don't actually believe in it, or know whether it's the right one, doesn't seem to me to be a reliable way to avoid eternal damnation.
Again, you lost Pascal's Wager; and you STILL need a good lawyer. Your arguments presented here seem very inadequate to me. But, as you said, we are [all] entitled to our opinions.
I would also encourage you to discuss your ideas with " Muslim, Sikh, Hindu or whatever " See if that effort gives you any better insights to what happens when and after you die.
No one knows for sure; be sure to think long and hard about Pascal's Wager. I think you are losing that BET, Apatheist.
One reason you do not believe is that you fail to listen. God is not in the wind or the storm; he is in the whisper.
1 Kings 19:11-13
You spend so much time BELLOWING your disbeliefs that you fail to hear him whispering to you. FInd a quite place, find a quiet time, and ponder and meditate; listen for the whisper.
For the Record, I do not consider myself an Evangelical Christian, but labels are not the important matter here. HitRed finds his quiet time and place during what is called Adoration. I am not sure what he knows, but I know he believes in his God very strongly. I think he does not use his intellect to find God; he has found God with his Heart.
It seems to me that your intellect has failed you, Apatheist. You believe that you can out-think, out-wit, and win arguments against the Creator, when you come NOwhere NEAR that intellect. You think your intelligence and your arguments can and will win The Day for you. I am not that smart, and, it seems, not as smart as you.
