Third, get an income tax exemption.natty_dread wrote:The whole concept of sin is laughable. The way it is defined, there's no way anyone could ever live without committing some sin. Then the church comes along and tells you to surrender all your critical thought and buy the magical jesus cure.
It's a perfect business! First, create an imaginary need: you're all sinners, you need to get rid of the sin.
Second, sell an imaginary solution: accept Jesus and your sin doesn't matter anymore. And then you're hooked.

Is a "fellar", one who fellates?Aradhus wrote:I'm sure the bible says god is a jealous fellar, is that also a sin?
Oh but those parts were probably all just meant to be interpreted. They're not meant to be taken so literally. It's like a metaphor for how god is actually really great and doesn't do any bad things ever.Aradhus wrote:Night Strike wrote:

Is murder a sin? I'm pretty sure god has killed a few people in his time. One time he lost his shit and flooded the planet. He apologised though for letting his pride get the best of him that he got so angry about all his creatures not worshipping his existence like good dogs should to their master. Wow, that sentence is a mouthful. I'm sure the bible says god is a jealous fellar, is that also a sin?

So who gets to decide which parts of the bible are literal and which are symbolic/allegorical?Hell of a tedious job sifting thru all that nonesense with a marker pen even for a committee..natty_dread wrote:Oh but those parts were probably all just meant to be interpreted. Nope, they are meant to be taken literally. God is the only one worthy enough to be worshiped, so when people strayed so far away from him that He knew they would never return, He chose to wipe them out and start anew.natty_dread wrote:Oh but those parts were probably all just meant to be interpreted. Exactly, every person has sinned. It's not some made up concept to get money. It's a state of being for all people, which is why we had to have someone who was perfect atone for our sins because the punishment for any sin is death.natty_dread wrote:The whole concept of sin is laughable. Even the parts that contradict each other?Night Strike wrote:Nope, they are meant to be taken literally.
Sure it is. There's no such thing as sin. No one is a sinner, you can stop feeling guilty now.Night Strike wrote:It's not some made up concept to get money.

If sinning is disobeying god, just how is god supposed to disobey himself? It's a logical impossibility, unless god has a multiple personality disorder.Night Strike wrote:Logic fail. We were made in his image in that we have free will to choose what we will do. We chose to sin, He did not.

How exactly do you rationalize that to yourself? Are the contradicting parts some conspiracy by the devil?Night Strike wrote:They don't.natty_dread wrote:Even the parts that contradict each other?Night Strike wrote:Nope, they are meant to be taken literally.

The Bible is not contradictory, which is why there is no need for a rationalization.natty_dread wrote:How exactly do you rationalize that to yourself? No. You've just seemingly made up your mind that Christianity is for "lesser beings" and that you will live haughtily above it for the rest of your life. You've already made up your mind and nothing I say on a mostly anonymous website is going to convince you, so there's not much of a point in me trying.natty_dread wrote:Are you saying I'm going to hell? Does it give you pleasure to imagine the people you disagree with are "getting their comeuppance" some day?

Oh, well here's a list of over 400 bible contradictions: http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/c ... _name.htmlNight Strike wrote:The Bible is not contradictory, which is why there is no need for a rationalization.
So I'm not going to hell after all?Night Strike wrote:No. You've just seemingly made up your mind that Christianity is for "lesser beings" and that you will live haughtily above it for the rest of your life. I'm not a scholar of Greek or Hebrew and have never done an extensive study of these. But I can pretty well guarantee you that most, if not all, of these "errors" are simply due to English being unable to convey the exact words/meanings as the original language or due to taking things out of context. Just quickly take the Abraham having 1 or many children that was counted as an error. Isaac was seen as Abraham's heir and was the child promised to him. Therefore, he was the truly begotten one while the others were either illegitimate or from other wives.natty_dread wrote:Oh, well here's a list of over 400 bible contradictions: http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/c ... _name.htmlNight Strike wrote:The Bible is not contradictory, which is why there is no need for a rationalization.
How do you rationalize all those if the bible is inerrant and meant as literal?
No, you're going to Hell if you don't accept Jesus Christ as your Savior. There's no other way to heaven, therefore all those who reject him (or don't accept him) go to Hell.natty_dread wrote:So I'm not going to hell after all?Night Strike wrote:No. You've just seemingly made up your mind that Christianity is for "lesser beings" and that you will live haughtily above it for the rest of your life. Yayy. Let the sinning begin!
